If I had it to do; I would like to make a small park or Dedication Drive and plant assorted trees in symmetrical designs or perhaps a unique arrangement.  Donors would have their plaques or family name put on tastefully designed monuments and nestled among the small groves of arranged trees.  An octagon design would have eight sides to put up to eight monuments.  Or a circle could have a monument with some interior landscaping right in the center.  There are many ideas for planting low maintenance arrangements.

What we need is about 3-5 acres on which a circular drive can be established and lots can be sold or leased for whoever wants to have a family member or business associate or civic leader remembered for their contribution to the community and put in the monument among the trees planted on that allotted space.  What I have in mind is for anyone who has contributed something to McAlester and you don't have to be a main mover or shaker about town.  All you main movers and shakers are welcome as are the others who have made a mark or impression within the community.  And we are not out to see who can build the biggest and best monuments.

How is all this maintained?  The back 1/3 or 1/5 is set aside for planting stock trees of quality which can be sold to the public, to cities or to those who need trees for their lot space.  It would be a small working tree farm.  The leaser would be responsible for all that pertains to planting cost and monument cost.  A board would be established from among the families of lot holders to make sure of accountability.  I know someone out there has some land that they would rather see trees go on than a lot of crowded houses or concrete.  Donate or sale to me cheaply a small piece of acreage and let me play with it.
